4.23 Posting or Mailing Grades and Release of Student Information

Student record information accessible electronically is subject to all of the rules and regulations of confidentiality of FERPA and should be handled with due professional care. Student privacy rights require that institutions maintain confidentiality of student data.

Releasing grades or any other student information to any unauthorized person is a violation of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The Registrar's office will not give individual grades to students until all grades have been recorded, and will not provide grades over the telephone. The Registrar's office e-mails students’ grades at the end of each semester. Grades matched with personally identifiable information must not be posted for public view. Faculty may not release grades to other institutions nor release grades to students over the phone.
