Undergraduate Catalog 2026-2027

CMSD 4060 SLA Practicum Elements II

This 3 credit hour course includes a practicum that provides advanced, supervised clinical experience in school-based speech-language pathology with an emphasis on data-driven practice, collaboration, and applied clinical research. Students engage in action research through a comprehensive case study, integrating qualitative and quantitative methodologies to analyze intervention outcomes and support educational environments. The course includes advanced responsibilities in clinical planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapy, as well as participation in multidisciplinary teams and IEP processes. A multi-part capstone project requires students to design and implement intervention sessions, conduct data analysis, complete MTSS and eligibility reviews, and demonstrate clinical competencies through recorded therapy sessions and reflective practice. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based decision-making, professional standards, and continuous improvement of clinical performance.
