7.9 Vacation Leave Policy

    Definition and Eligibility

    Paid vacation leave is an authorized paid absence from work, which full-time (40 hours/week), 12-month employees accrue as a result of their employment. All eligible employees accrue and may use vacation leave in accordance with the provisions of this policy.

     

    The immediate supervisor must approve vacation leave.

     

    Accrual

     

    Full-time (40 hours/week), 12-month employees accrue vacation leave during each pay period. Accruals are credited to employees on each pay day. Newly eligible employees will begin accruing leave hours the first day of employment. Accruals will be credited to employees on each successive pay date.

     

    Employees with previous experience at regionally accredited colleges or universities will receive an accrual rate based on the number of years completed in full-time service at those institutions.

    * Overtime is excluded in the calculation of accrual rates for non-exempt, hourly employees.

     

    Eligible employees may carry forward up to the maximum accrual limit from one calendar year to the next each January.

     

    Employees eligible for increased accrual rates will be awarded the increase in vacation accrual hours beginning on the first day of the pay period during which the anniversary occurs.

     

    Compensation

    For 12-month employees, compensation will be paid for unused accrued vacation leave hours upon termination of employment or conversion to part-time employment. The payout will not exceed the maximum accrual limits. Faculty who move from a 12-month contract to a or to a 9-month contract will forfeit all accumulated annual leave at the end of the 12-month contract period.
