4.7 Faculty
Faculty are expected to exemplify objectives and values consistent with the mission statement of the university. Faculty are required to attend Faculty Assembly meetings, Convocation, Baccalaureate, and Commencement ceremonies and are encouraged to participate in other university-sponsored functions and to serve the greater community.
Although faculty members are not assigned the role of faculty advisor to student organizations, their participation is strongly encouraged and may be substituted in lieu of committee responsibility. Faculty responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Effective classroom teaching and interacting with students in a professional manner;
- Providing student support through advising;

Participating in recruitment and retention efforts;

Maintaining accurate and secure records of student grades, attendance, and advisement;

Maintaining high standards of professionalism in the content, objectives, teaching, and grading of all courses;

Filing accurate course syllabi with the appropriate school each semester;

Maintaining an understanding of university policies and the curriculum and degree requirements of their respective schools;

Participating in departmental, school, and university faculty meetings and serving on committees as appropriate;

Contributing to the ongoing operation of their respective departments and schools;

Assessing their teaching effectiveness via annual portfolios and evaluating courses formally in accordance with official university procedure;

Assuring their availability to students, faculty, staff, and administrators by posting and keeping reasonable office hours, as determined by the dean of their respective schools;

Maintaining a professional level of scholarship by continuous study, research, and attendance and participation at professional meetings. These activities are supported by the university through departmental travel funds and the faculty development program; and

Other duties as assigned.
