BUSA 4882 Technology in the Hospitality Industry

This course provides an overview of the information needs of lodging properties and food service establishments. Students will learn the basics of purchasing, implementing, maintaining, and managing a variety of technology systems used in the hospitality industry.

At the successful completion of the course students will be able to:

  2. Describe the basic functions common to property management systems.
  3. Identify and describe common external storage devices.
  4. Outline the types of computer networks.
  5. Explain the basic functions and services performed by a central reservation system.
  6. Explain how a central reservation system interfaces with a property management system.
  7. Define the features and functions of the guest accounting module of a hotel property management system.
  8. Demonstrate how managers can use various reports commonly generated by guest accounting modules of a hotel property management system.
  9. Identify the features and functions of an energy management system.
  10. Explain the differences between touchscreen point-of-sale terminals from wireless terminals.
  11. Explain the features and functions of menu engineering software.
  12. Identify the challenges that clubs will face in the future and the possible solutions.
  13. Identify the specific features and functions of software designed for off-premises and home delivery catering operations.
  14. Describe the functions typically performed by payroll modules in automated accounting systems.
