3.38 Employment of Presidential Spouse
The Board of Trustees recognizes that the employment of Presidential spouses or domestic partners presents a special case since all lines of supervision at the University report to the President. The Board of Trustees also recognizes the potential benefit that the employment of these individuals may present to the University, so that a blanket prohibition of such employment would not serve the best interests of the institution. Accordingly, presidential spouses and domestic partners are encouraged to explore appropriate employment opportunities with the University on the basis of their professional qualifications for specific positions that may become available at the University, provided the following requirements are satisfied:
- All legal requirements in recruitment, hiring, and compensation concerning equal employment opportunities are met.
- All University policies and procedures concerning recruitment, hiring, and compensation are followed.
- The Chairman of the Presidential Review Committee of the Board of Trustees will appoint a senior administrator to oversee the processes established above and all continuing requirements of employment including annual reviews and personnel evaluations. The senior administrator so appointed will report all significant personnel actions concerning the spouse or partner to the Chairman of the Presidential Review Committee as a matter of information. If warranted, the Review Committee may recommend a change in the employment status of the spouse or partner to the Executive Committee.
