Policies and Procedures Manual 2024 - 2025

2.1 Policy on Policies

Policy Statement: Piedmont University will create and publish, electronically or otherwise, policies of the university. These policies will support the mission of the university and adhere to principles of good educational practice. Policies will incorporate, either directly or by reference, all appropriate necessary information to meet state and federal regulatory requirements and comply with requirements of external constituencies.

A policy is a system of principles that guide the management of the University’s affairs. University leaders advise the President on policy by selecting courses of action from alternatives in a context of well-understood goals and of appropriate strategies that will be effective in pursuing those goals. Policies should include a policy statement and procedures on how the University community can comply with the policy.

Procedures: The Policy on Policies applies to all university constituents with policy issuance responsibilities and requires the use of a standardized Policy Template and approval process.

  1. When a need for a policy or a policy revision has been identified, a draft of the policy that includes the policy type, statement, purpose and procedures should be submitted in the template format via email to the appropriate party with administrative oversight for review, consultation and possible revision.

  2. Template completion:

Policy Title: Policy name (add policy # if revision to existing policy).

Submitted by & Department: Name and department of person submitting proposed policy.

Office of Oversight: Vice President’s office (or President’s office) with oversight of the department.

Applies to: List department/colleges/schools affected by policy.

Approved by, Approval Date and Effective Date: Leave blank. To be added once approved.

Once the VP office of oversight approves the final draft, it is presented to senior administration for approval. Once approved it is forwarded to Human Resources for inclusion in the policy manual. The Board of Trustees approves the policy manual annually during the Spring Board Meeting.

For questions regarding this process, please contact the Associate Vice President of Human Resources.
