Article III. The Faculty Assembly

Section 1. Function:

1. The Faculty Assembly functions through the Faculty Senate, and receives reports from the Senate, acts as a referendum body for questions referred to it by the Senate, and refers matters to the Senate for consideration.
2. The Faculty Assembly acts on matters brought before it by the Administration, Faculty Senate, or any member of the Faculty Assembly concerning
   1. Graduation requirements;
   2. General education requirements; and
   3. Any other matters pertaining to the overall programs and welfare of the University.

Section 2. Membership:

1. The Faculty Assembly shall consist of all individuals with current full-time appointments for nine months or longer as professional librarians or at the rank of instructor, assistant professor, fellow, associate professor, senior fellow, or professor.
2. Other members of the teaching and administrative staffs of the University may be appointed to the Faculty Assembly by the President after consultation with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Chair of the Faculty Senate.

Section 3. Voting Privileges:

1. Individuals defined above in Article III, Section 2 are voting members of the Faculty Assembly.
2. At the beginning of each academic year, the Vice President for Academic

   Affairs shall publish a list designating the voting members of the Faculty Assembly.

3. Only those faculty members present at a meeting of the Assembly shall have vote; there shall be no substitutes or proxies.

Section 4. Officers:

1. The officers of the Faculty Assembly are also the officers of the Faculty Senate who are elected by the Senate as prescribed below in Article IV, Section 3.
2.  They shall be the Chair, the Vice Chair, the Secretary, and the Parliamentarian.

Section 5. Meetings:

1. The Faculty Assembly shall convene at least once each fall and spring semester at the call of the Chair of the Faculty Senate. Non-voting faculty may attend.
2.  The Senate Chair shall also convene the Faculty Assembly upon request by a majority of the senators.
3. A simple majority of the membership shall constitute a quorum for the transaction of Faculty Assembly business.
4. A simple majority of votes cast shall be required for the passage of a motion.
5. Motions regarding general education requirements and/or graduation requirements shall require two readings, ordinarily in subsequent meetings, for passage.
6. All meetings shall be conducted in accordance with Robert’s Rules of Order except as indicated otherwise in these bylaws or when the Assembly shall vote to suspend the rules as described in Robert’s Rules.
