ARED 4496 Art Education Content Synthesis

A study of instructional methods, including cooperative learning, inquiry learning, grouping considerations, and other instructional variables. Candidates will learn how to select, plan, sequence, implement, and evaluate various instructional methodologies applicable to teaching in in the k-12 art classroom. There will be an emphasis on assessment in art education and art education portfolio development. Junior standing.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon the completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate the following outcome-based learning skills:

1. Develop a knowledge of art teaching methods and classroom management strategies appropriate to the elementary level, specific for the discipline of art.
2. Understand how to assess and evaluate student growth and development in k-12 art.
3. Demonstrate an ability and willingness to self-evaluate and to evaluate students using a variety of formal and informal assessments.
4. Demonstrate subject matter competency, critical thinking, and attempt to facilitate student learning in meaningful ways
5. Students will prepare for the unique elements included in the art education content exam (media/safety/criticism/history/pedagogy).
6. Students will document their learning experiences along with curating personal artwork, and teaching pedagogy in a digital portfolio .
