CNSL 6800 Research and Program Evaluation

This course examines the major modes of inquiry in counseling research including experimental, casual comparative, descriptive, qualitative inquiry, and action research models. Statistical concepts, including scales of measurement, measures of central tendency, indices of variability, shapes and types of distributions, and correlations reliability and validity in the use of assessments .

Upon successful completion of this course students will:

1. Understand the importance of research in advancing the counseling profession, including how to critique research to inform counseling practice
2. Know the identification of evidence-based counseling practices
3. Understand development of outcome measures for counseling programs
4. Apply the evaluation of counseling interventions and programs
5. Understand qualitative, quantitative, and mixed research methods
6. Apply designs used in research and program evaluation
7. Apply statistical methods used in conducting research and program evaluation
8. Understand the analysis and use of data in counseling
9. Apply ethical and culturally relevant strategies for conducting, interpreting, and reporting the results of research and/or program evaluation
