EDUC 6631 Reading Methods
A study of the major approaches to reading instruction incorporating current theories and research practices. Topics include: the components of the Science of Reading, emergent literacy, knowledge about print, phonemic awareness and phonics, word recognition, word- study instruction, vocabulary development, comprehending narrative and expository texts, content area reading, analysis and development of multimedia reading materials, literacy instruction for non-native speakers of English, needs of exceptional learners, and appropriate diagnostic procedures. (Pre-service certificate required. Field experience required.)
