Counseling Services

The mission of Piedmont University Counseling Services is to provide quality services, training, education, and programs that foster the well-being of Piedmont University’s campus community.
College can be an exciting time, and sometimes, a difficult time. Counseling Services is here to help when life gets overwhelming. Piedmont University offers free counseling services to students who may need help with:

  • Suicidal thoughts or self-harm
  • Depression
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Crisis
  • Relationship problems
  • Trauma
  • Identity issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Stress
  • Adjusting to college life
  • And much more

Individual counseling is provided in a safe, confidential atmosphere, and is designed to be short-term. If students require longer-term counseling, they may be referred to community resources (to which any cost would be the responsibility of the student).

Bereavement

While it is our hope that no student loses a loved one during their time at Piedmont University, it is possible that you may experience a loss. If that happens, Piedmont will be here to support you both emotionally and academically to the best of our ability.

If you experience the death of a loved one, please raise a flag on Starfish called “Death in the family.” If possible, give as much detail as you can about who you lost, what the arrangements are, and if/when you plan on being out of class. At that point, the Director of Counseling Services will reach out to you and contact your instructors, coaches, advisors, and anyone else in your network.

There are services available to you when you are ready, including individual counseling for grief and loss, group counseling for grief and loss, referral services, and crisis services, if needed. We offer walk-in hours Monday – Thursday from 2-4pm, also, if needed.

Academically, you will have choices depending on when the death happens in the semester, how long you will be out, and other factors. Please contact the Director of Counseling Services to discuss your options.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Director of Counseling Services.
