BUSA 3620 Logistics and Supply Chain Management

At the undergraduate level, we focus on the functional level of analysis of the strategic business unit and the process of getting work done. This is the first course on this topic and will survey the topic. Most of the doing under the supply chain metaphor falls into the category of logistics. Logistics is the optimization of the movement of materials (inbound & outbound) optimizing the storage of materials and optimizing the flow of goods, services, and information. The knowledge and skills to perform these functions are the primary student learning outcomes of this course.

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

• Utilize a vocabulary of management terms and concepts.
• Apply management concepts of mission, vision, and values in the context of logistical planning.
• Demonstrate familiarity with major logistical strategies including storage and flow for both inbound and outbound materials.
• Analyze an organization’s supply chain and identify changes for optimization.
• Understand the complex communications required for providing information to all stakeholders, including internal management and external vendors.
• Demonstrate familiarity with industry-standard supply chain software as well as the types of functions to expect of logistical technology.
• Implement critical thinking, ethical considerations in management, strategic planning, and oral and written communications.
