Professional Educators whose goals include serving as a school administrator may wish to consider a program in School Leadership with an emphasis on instructional leadership.

Programs Leading to State Certification

Piedmont College has been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to offer a Tier I (building level) certification program. Educators who hold professional educator certification in Georgia (who have three or more years of teaching experience) and who demonstrate disposition for school leadership, and who successfully complete requirements for certification, are eligible for recommendation for Tier I educational leadership certification.

Depending upon a candidate’s previous preparation, Piedmont offers two pathways for school leadership certification:

  • Certification-only. Individuals who hold an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in curriculum and instruction or its equivalent are eligible to apply for certification only.
  • Ed.S. degree in Curriculum and Instruction and School Leadership. Candidates with a master’s degree in education are eligible to apply for the Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction and School Leadership.
