Graduate Catalog 2016-2017

Conversion Mechanism

Piedmont College has been approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission to evaluate the program and/or course work of professional educators for the purpose of assessing whether they have the requisite background to take the GACE in Curriculum and Instruction and be recommended for initial certification in Curriculum and Instruction.

Who is eligible?

Educators who hold an advanced degree in Curriculum and Instruction (or closely related area) from an NCATE, TEAC, or CAEP-accredited program may apply for consideration for the Conversion Mechanism. Additionally, Piedmont College alumni who earned the Education Specialist degree at Piedmont College prior to June 2013 may also apply. Candidates must make formal application with the Office of Graduate Admissions.

Acceptance for the Conversion Mechanism and recommendation for certification is not automatic. In addition to the formal application and transcript analysis, candidates may be required to complete a professional portfolio (EDUC 7796 - Portfolio and Presentation - Conversion Mechanism) and one or more courses, depending upon their previous graduate study and professional work experience. An interview may also be required.
